History: James Fryer and Mary Butler were born in 1752 and 1762 Titchfield, Hampshire, England, across the water from the Isle of Wight. James and Mary had eleven children, moving around from place to place as their children were born, starting with Titchfield, Totten, Eling, and finally to Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight. Of the eleven children born to James and Mary Fryer, seven lived to maturity. James and Mary both died in and were buried in Yarmouth.

The story is told of how Jane Fryer loved to visit her grandfather who was a baker, and for many years the grandfather who was a baker was thought to be her Grandfather Miller. But, instead, it was her Grandfather Fryer who lived right there in Yarmouth. Those wonderful pie crusts, etc. which were learned and passed on for many generations, likely had their start with James Fryer.
